SHAKESPEARE for Children
What is the program about?
Shakespeare
is a genius whose works are enjoyed by everyone – young and old
alike. The Bard’s plays have thrilled audiences in the past, it
continues to thrill audiences in the present and undoubtedly will delight
audiences of the future. This ‘audience of the future’ is
non other than the young primary school students of today.
‘Shakespeare
for Children’ aims to introduce the young student to the amazing
plays of Shakespeare in a fun-filled environment, ensuring that an appreciation
for great literature is instilled. This will be achieved through reading,
translating and acting out one of Shakespeare’s comedies. The ability
to understand and appreciate the work of Shakespeare will definitely be
a great help to these students later in their education.
The emphasis of every lesson is FUN.
Above all, ‘Shakespeare for Children’ aims to remove the stigma that
Shakespeare is dry and boring. As a result, every lesson will include:
- Fun facts about Shakespeare.
- Games to help the children familiarize themselves with the story, eg charades to guess characters, etc
- Quizzes on famous quotes from the book.
- Etymology of certain words – how come they meant something back in Shakespeare’s day and what they mean in today’s context.
